Language Arts: March 7 Field Trip
My Language Arts class is currently reading a hilarious book called By the Great Horn Spoon, which chronicles the life of Jack and Praiseworthy as they travel from Boston to California to strike it rich during the Gold Rush. On Wednesday, March 7, my language arts class is heading to Julian to visit a historic gold mine and learn about life in the 1800s! Here is some information about the trip:
|
“If one can manage to get themselves to California, that faraway frontier, neither pick nor shovel is required to reveal the plentiful gold which is scattered upon the ground!” While San Diego County’s own Gold Rush came some 20 years later in Julian it turned out gaining riches was not so easy! You and your students will learn to use Pans, Rockers, and the ‘Long Tom’ or Sluice box to reveal gold and other minerals in this 4 hour Gold Rush field trip. Expect to complete 8-10 of the bulleted activities. |
|
I am in need of drivers for this trip. If you are interested in joining us, please email me at emily@museumschool.org or post a comment to this blog. We will leave the school at 8:45 and return around 3:30.

Fabulous State Floats!
Awesome floats + Valentine’s Day + Rare Hare Studio Field Trip = FUN
The fifth grade floats are awesome! I love the unique textures that the kids used to decorate their floats-carpet, sunflower seeds, velvet-like grass, refrigerator magnets, lots and lots of glitter, feathers, drawer-liners, and loads of other recycled materials. Good job, fifth graders!
Please let me know if you would like to send in a breakfast item for our Valentine party next week. I will post a list on this blog of breakfast foods that parents volunteer to send to school so that we avoid duplicate items. Thanks!
Finally, I am in the process of organizing a fabulous field trip to the Rare Hare Studio the last week of March. Erin, our art teacher and the owner of the art studio, is planning to construct an enormous 3-D piece of art with the fifth graders and has asked me to start collect letters, of all shapes and sizes, for our project. Can you help? I just looked in my craft closet and found scrabble tiles, a card with a huge “W” on it, and a magnetic “E.” Please know that the letters you send in might be used for our project and might not be returned. So raid those craft containers and help us create a huge, 3-D piece of art for our class!
Thanks for your support!
